Travel to Eastbourne

Car, Bus or Train…..the choice is yours

On a sunny day, Eastbourne beach is hard to beat. The beaches are partly sandy and there are gardens and a pier to enjoy. Eastbourne also has theatres, an art gallery and shopping

By Car

When we go into Eastbourne, we always drive and park on the street. It’s quicker than public transport, and there is usually plenty of parking (most of which is unfortunately no longer free).

If you want to park right near the centre, there is some on-street parking in Hyde Gardens right by the Tourist Information Centre. Maximum stay is 2 hours. Watch the one-way system there!

Slightly longer stays are allowed in the area near the War Memorial roundabout.

If you would like a 30-40 minute walk into the centre, try parking near Bedes Prep School, and walking down through the gardens and along the prom towards the pier. Some of the parking is free there, and on a sunny day, the half-hour+ walk is gorgeous. For this walk, don’t drive all the way into Eastbourne, but, from the A259, take the Beachy Head turn (Warren Hill) as shown on the maps below, then bear right down Upper Duke’s Drive. This is a very twisty road, so do take care!

By Train

It’s not really worth travelling by train to Eastbourne! There are no direct trains from Seaford, and this journey would take over 45 minutes. Eastbourne railway station is also slightly further from the main shopping area than the bus stop. However, if you love trains, then you can take any one of the trains leaving Seaford, and change at Lewes for Eastbourne.

By Bus

You can travel quite easily by bus. The best stop is probably the one outside the library, as all buses stop there. You can catch the 12, 12A or 12X, getting off either in town (Arndale Centre) or stay on a few more minutes to reach Eastbourne Pier.

The 12A takes a somewhat circuitous route through Seaford, adding a few minutes to the travel time. For this reason, the 12 or 12X is slightly preferable. Look online at buses.co.uk for more information.
